We Educate and Inspire Youth

To Preserve Their Liberty

LIBERTY WEEK

June 27 - July 4

Our mission is to provide best-in-class educational platforms, learning destinations, and patriotic celebrations focused on the history and core principles of our nation’s founding documents.

Who Is United We Pledge?

What Are We Pledging To Do?

In the United States today, there is an erosion of civic understanding and principles.(1) Teachers are not able to maintain the quality of civic education needed to produce quality citizens. With increased focus and funding toward core competencies such as science, technology, engineering and math, teachers just can't keep up.(2)

With that realization, United We Pledge was founded to be a premier source of knowledge for youth to become educated about the beginnings of America, her principles, ideals and promise documented for us in her founding charters: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Because youth are more at risk of losing their appreciation and fulfillment in their identity as citizens of the United States of America at this time than any other in history, we have a vision to accomplish the great goal of civics education in our community. We want our community to know and understand their rights. We seek for our neighbors to hold dear these unalienable rights that America has sought to engender and protect throughout the world.  And we know it must start with the rising generation.

To that end, we have created the Give Me Liberty program and we are leading the foundation of Liberty Village, a park that will focus on teaching colonial trades and foundational values to visitors, primarily youth and families.

Give Me Liberty is the program that United We Pledge has created and uses to teach American history, principles and civics to youth. We primarily work with school administrations to teach 5th-graders these lessons.

Liberty Village is a colonial-era themed park designed to be a destination for families, individuals, and especially youth. Here you will learn about the founding of the United States, what it means to be an American and important facts about the Charters of Freedom: The US Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights.

United We Pledge inspires youth with greater civic responsibility, patriotism and a deeper understanding of their rights and privileges and how they are enshrined in the founding documents of America through the Give Me Liberty program.

We teach youth that they must learn to protect these documents and the principles of liberty written in them for themselves and future generations to enjoy.

We Focus On 5th Graders. Why?

After reviewing multiple studies (x, x) United We Pledge has determined that the 5th grade, the first time most students begin any in-depth civics education, is critical in long-term civics understanding and adoption. The most vulnerable groups need this education the most, too.(x)

We have designed the Give Me Liberty Program to be especially resonant with fifth graders. Since the program is a supplement to in-classroom teaching , it has been wildly popular with educators and administrations alike, too.

Our Give Me Liberty Bus travels to schools to kick off the Give Me Liberty Program in a fun, exciting and engaging way. Plus, we take it to events!

Why American Civics?

The Utah Civic Learning Collaborative (UCLC), a group of citizens concerned with civics education in Utah, conducted a study across the entire state among 5th, 8th, and 11th graders to learn what they were learning and remembering. The study shed light on what teachers thought about how they were doing and what they were teaching, what administrators' perceptions were and what the challenges of civics education in public and private schools are.

Our founder, Lex Howard, took his family to a historic park and saw his son engage with the things that were taught. After pondering this reaction, he put together a group to learn more of what was going on in schools and neighborhoods.

Desiring to start a non-profit (United We Pledge is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) to teach this stuff, Lex started United We Pledge, created a board (where he still serves) and hired a president. United We Pledge has been pursuing better ways to teach youth civics and creating patriotic events to support this primary mission ever since.

So we had anecdotal evidence that civics education was suffering and the UCLC report helped support our conclusions and let us know we were on the right path when deciding to teach civics for our nonprofit purpose.

Get Involved With the Mission of United We Pledge

United We Pledge has an important—and somewhat overwhelming—mission: To teach the youth of the city, county, state and nation about American foundational civics. We teach the United States Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. These are the foundational Charters of Freedom of the United States and critical to our knowledge and understanding of American civics.

What Is Liberty Village?

Liberty Village is an immersive colonial-style American history theme park and educational destination coming to Hurricane, Utah.

Scheduled to open in 2025, our first phase will unveil the 13 Colonies Plaza, a tribute to America’s original 13 colonies, complete with a stunning replica of the iconic Liberty Bell. But that’s just the beginning.

Phase 2 will bring to life even more of America’s rich history with replicas of the historic Green Dragon Tavern and a Print Shop.

Join us on a journey to delve into the story of the United States of America. Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide an experience that’s both educational and entertaining, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of our nation’s founding documents and core principles.
